TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — A scanner call is shedding more light into a near drowning on Tucson's eastside Saturday.

"Just some clarification it's a drowning correct?" says one person on dispatch.

"Uh yes, (inaudible). A cardiac arrest for now. A 2-year-old," replied someone on dispatch.

That is police responding to a call about a toddler that nearly drowned at an eastside home Saturday.

Tucson police rushed over to a home on Igo way near Speedway boulevard and Harrison road around 4 p.m.

"We're doing CPR," says someone on dispatch.

Tucson fire soon arrived to take the child to Tucson Medical Center (TMC).

"Can I get a unit to go to TMC please?" asked someone on dispatch.

"This is the first I've heard about it and I'm very upset for the parents," said Norma Harrison, a neighbor.

Harrison has lived in the neighborhood near Igo Way for 30 years now.

She was caught off guard because she has never heard of a drowning happening in the area.

"Never a child running off loose or anything," Harrison said.

Other neighbors News 4 Tucson spoke with said the same thing pointing out that there are not many children around, besides the elementary school nearby.

"Just our generation. Older families. Always quiet we know everybody," said Georgann & Jeff Domoracki, a couple who live nearby.

But on Saturday it was not quiet.

"The dad just didn't want to stay. Grandmother and grandfather are here," dispatch says.

A normally quiet cul-de-sac now rocked by a child nearly drowning.

"It's heartbreaking," Georgann said.

To be clear a drowning does not always mean it is deadly, the CDC says drowning happens when your nose and mouth are under water for too long making it impossible to breath.

A death involving drowning is called a fatal drowning and a drowning where someone survives is a non fatal drowning.

Authorities say the child is in critical condition but a neighbor close to the family says the child is doing better.

The circumstances leading up to the near drowning are still not known to the public.

Tucson police says no arrests have been made.
